Once you have made the decision to hire professional painters, you are not quite done yet. There are a few more things you’ll need to decide on and most likely need to do prior to their arrival.
When you hire your painters and before they plan to start painting, you should discuss with them what type of paint and what sheen they plan on using. Contractors usually prefer flat as it masks flaws in the sheetrock but it is difficult to clean and might even require repainting instead of cleaning. Most interior designers prefer an eggshell or satin. The shinier the paint, the less it will hide flaws in the walls and the easier it is to clean. A professional painting contractor will be happy to discuss your options depending on where the painting will be done. (Kitchens and baths will typically use a different paint than the rest of the house.)
Have you chosen a color? You will need to select a color prior to their arrival and this is best done by buying a few sample colors you like and painting an 18 x 24 inch swatch of each paint on the wall. it is a good idea to put the name of each paint somehow by the corresponding color. You will need to look at the swatches at different times of the day because light impacts the look of wall color. What works well on your wall in the morning might look awful in the evening.
Lastly, it is a good idea to discuss with them who is responsible for the prep work before the painting begins. Will you be responsible for removing all nails or hooks in the wall and plugging the holes or will they do it? Will you need to clean any walls? Will they cover the furniture or will you be responsible for this?
it is best to have a clear picture of what your painters will be doing for you and what you are responsible for doing prior to their arrival so no one is caught off guard and they can begin their work promptly.
