House Painting Project In Central Park A Great Success

By October 11, 2016 No Comments

A house painting project in Central Park is bringing color, warmth, and excitement to the neighborhood. The Central Park Neighborhood Association (CPNA) discussed the success of the project at their September meeting. As a result of the program’s success, the group is hoping to green-light future neighborhood projects. Furthermore, they hope the project as a whole will make Central Park a model neighborhood and increase CPNA investors committee membership.

Funding

The McFarlane Family Foundation is funding the house painting project in Central Park. President Karen Tipper also reported 75% of the cost had been covered by a N.I.C.E Initiative program totaling $60,000. As a result, members hope to draw more support from both the community and additional CPNA members.

The Program

The house painting project has seen six homes receive an all new exterior paint job. In addition, one more house is expected to receive the same treatment before the year ends. Tipper told reporters that the cost of painting one house falls between roughly $7,000 to $8,000. A homeowner on Young Street chose to paint his 19th century home a vibrant, “Concord Grape” color. “Concord Grape” was evidently a very popular color when the home was built in the late 1800s.

Future Projects

The CPNA is no longer accepting applications for the house painting program. President Tipper is looking to future projects that will continue to improve the neighborhood. Committee member Norma Sain is launching a program for landlords called Central Park Certified. The program gives certifications to landlords in the Central Park neighborhood who take special care of their properties. In order to qualify, the city must conduct an inspection, and the landlord must be current on their taxes and rental license.

Crystal Dillard, another committee member, is also working on a bike share program for the neighborhood. Zagster, a bike share company, provides an app for riders to pay for bikes using their credit cards. Hourly rates, as well as day- and three-day passes are available. Furthermore, it is a great opportunity for the neighborhood because nearly half of the residents do not own cars.
